We are a group of energetic, positive professionals who work together to enhance our communication and leadership skills. We share our experiences in personal and professional growth. Guests are always welcome to visit our club. Please contact us beforehand so we can greet you with our warm, friendly Southern California flare.

What should you expect?

Toastmasters is a learn-by-doing public speaking club, where everyone can hone their speaking and leadership skills in a friendly, safe atmosphere. A typical group has 20 to 30 members who meet weekly to practice public speaking techniques. The average meeting lasts 90 minutes.

You learn communication skills by working through the Competent Communication manual, a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking. You can learn skills related to use of humor, gestures, eye contact, speech organization and overall delivery. When finished with this manual, you can choose from 15 advanced manuals to learn skills related to specific interests.

You can also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles and by working in the Competent Leadership manual.

There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting

Each speech and meeting is evaluated by a member in a positive constructive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved. Participants practice and learn a variety of speaking skills by filling some of the following meeting roles:

  • Conduct meetings
  • Prepare and give speeches
  • Give short impromptu talks during Table Topics
  • Serve as speech timer, evaluator or grammarian
  • Evaluate a speech
  • Serving as Toastmaster or Topics Master
