Greetings Fellow Coasties,

This week our meeting was lead by our first time Toastmaster Lisa Carrell, who shared with us her love of Literature and set our theme for the meeting thusly.

Our Table Topics today was led by myself, who spent countless hours googling the storylines of some of history’s greatest reads (hey, it beats actually reading them). Each table topics participant was brought to the front to share their take on the meanings, morals and plotlines that make up their lives. Our Best Table Topics went to Dr Michael Whelan for sharing his passion for the movie version of Moby Dick.

Our three speakers today were in fine form. We first heard from Brad Smith, who gave us some excellent ideas around standing out in your market, Joan Weisman who educated and motivated us about changing the fate of the bees of the world, and Amir Farahani who gave us an enthusiastic lesson in Macro-Economic Policies. For his polarizing statements and great ideas, Brad Smith was awarded Best Speaker.

Evaluations today were by three of our most experienced members: Dr Michael Whelan, Leonard Szymczak and Dave DuRee. All three gave the speakers insights and ideas to improve, and Dave was awarded Best Evaluator.

Special mention must go to the amazing Joan Weisman for her contribution to our club over the past few years, Joan has served as President, and also become an amazing speaker. She is now taking on a role as club coach for another Toastmasters group on Thursday mornings, so will be away from our club for a while. She has promised to come back again sometime in the future, and share with us all again. We’ll miss you Joan!

As you all know our past president Leonard Szymczak will compete in the The Founder’s District Tall Tales competition this Saturday. He is one of the 8 finalists from more than 200 clubs in our District. He is competing at 3pm on the afternoon, and if you can come along to support, you can attend the competition for $20. Till next week, remember to take everything literally!
