Greetings Coasties,

This week’s meeting was an unequivocal success thanks to fine Toastmaster-ing skills of Tracey Fullenkamp. She began our meeting by telling us all to “Get Out”… outside that is. This week’s theme was The Great Outdoors, and we all shared the spirit of the wild during today’s meeting.

Out table topics master today was past-president Leonard Szymczak, who ensured everyone was up on their feet and thinking about adventures they’ve had in the past. I was fortunate enough to snare the Best Table Topics with my second-rate impression of Bear Grylls.

Next up came our three speakers, starting off with an excellent how-to talk by Fiona Smith. She shared with us her tips and techniques for overcoming those glossophobic moments we all experience. Next up we heard from our newest Aussie member John Ansett, with his enthusiastic and insightful overview of the Tour De France.  And finally we had a vernacular spectacular from Chuck Schwartz with his take on the world of Numerology. Chuck’s wit and wisdom won him the title of Best Speaker for today. And don’t he just look thrilled about it…

We then had our General Evaluator Michele Ryan lead the way, and three excellent evaluations from Linda Denton, Carter Lee, and myself. I was once again fortunate to take out Best Evaluator (and don’t I look happy about it!).

In other news, we have a special themed meeting coming up on August 22nd, focussed on the skill of delivering an Elevator Pitch. This will give us all a chance to practice our professional pitches to a warm audience, and also get to know each other’s jobs a little better. If you need a guide on how to polish up your elevator pitch, here is a guide provided by CW Gruenig: http://blogs.hbr.org/dowling/2009/05/how-to-perfect-an-elevator-pit.html

Remember also, we will be having our Summer Event on Saturday Sept 7th, from 11am-1pm at Salt Creek Beach. Please signup on the sheet next week if you plan to attend, and list what you can bring along to eat or drink.

That’s all for this week. As always, it is a privilege to be part of such a wonderful group of supportive, skilled speakers. I look forward to seeing you all next week.

In the meantime, remember to get out… doors!
