Dear Fellow Coasties,

This week’s meeting was hosted by our longest standing member the honorable Dave DuRee, who gave us the theme of ‘Laid Back/Casual’. Of course, as always Dave was dressed the part in his Hawaiian shirt and shorts, and a winning smile.

Our table topics today were skillfully handled by Brenda Johnson, who dealt out the questions and quotations to get us all thinking. Sherri Horrowitz took home the award for Best Table Topics, with her thoughts on uncontrollable laughter.

We had two of our most experienced speakers step up to share today, first with Jonathan Jenkins giving us all an insight into his career as a vocal coach, and how we should revere our larynx. Next we heard from Leonard Szymczak about three important areas to juggle: love, passion and wisdom. And there was something in there about a plunger too! Congratulations to Leonard for winning ‘Best Speecher’ (that’s not a typo, by the way).

Our evaluators today were Chuck Schwarz and Tracey Fullenkamp. Both gave excellent feedback and praise to our speakers, and Tracey won the award for best Evaluator.

In other club news, we have decided the Summer Event will be on Saturday Sept 7th from 11am-2pm. It will be held at Salt Creek Beach, in the barbeque area. More details will follow in the future, but mark the date. Also Jonathan Jenkins is hosting a networking mixer (with a free vocal training lesson) at his home on the same evening, Sept 7th from 6pm. All are welcome to attend and join the fun.

Finally, our factoid reporter Lisa Carrell wanted me to share the link to the most relaxing song in the world: (Remember not to drive or operate machinery while listening to it.)

Thanks to everybody who came along today, and shared in the rambunctious riot that was this week’s Coastmasters meeting.
